Concentrare. Concentrare! Sì, è fondamentale! È quello che faccio quando scrivo qualcosa, quando ne parlo o mi devo mettere a lavorare su quanto le mie attività richiedono. Bisogna sintetizzare, raggiungere il nocciolo, il distillato attraverso cui, in poche parole, con pochi concetti, riuscire a restituire anche una complessità, un piccolo mondo. In questo c’è una necessità centripeta, andare in fondo, parlare di quella cosa lì, senza tanti giri. Altrimenti si finisce nello sproloquio, in un vagare intorno che non porta da nessuna parte. Le avanguardie erano maestre in quest’arte senza sconti, l’aspetto sintetico, nel senso alto del termine, la loro più grande conquista.

Focusing. Focusing—yes, that is essential! It is what I do when I write, when I speak, or when I set about the work my activities demand. One must synthesize, getting to the core—the distilled essence that allows one to convey complexity, or even a whole little world, in just a few words and concepts. This requires a centripetal movement: delving deep and addressing the subject directly, without beating around the bush. Otherwise, you end up rambling—wandering aimlessly without getting anywhere. The avant-garde movements were masters of this uncompromising art; synthesis—in the highest sense of the word—was their greatest achievement.
