Parola d’Artista: Secondo te il sacro ha ancora una sua importanza nell’arte di oggi e nel mondo in cui viviamo?
Maura Banfo: L’arte è un rituale di per sé. E come ogni rituale conduce ad una sacralità, forse intima e segreta, ma esposta attraverso un’alchimia artistica.
Credo che abbiamo tutti bisogno di un segnale che ci connetta con un livello spirituale, non necessariamente religioso a mio avviso, una spiritualità che ognuno può trovare attraverso gesti quotidiani che connettono l’altro che è in noi. E l’arte lo è di sicuro. Con tutte le sue contraddizioni. Ma gli artisti hanno quella capacità di creare quasi dei mantra attraverso il proprio lavoro, ponendosi così in connessione con qualcosa che va oltre la realtà.
Siamo noi a fissare la sacralità di un gesto o di un oggetto, nell’arte come nella vita del nostro tempo.
Penso al fuoco sacro che è un’ispirazione profonda, il fuoco sacro dell’arte!
Di sicuro il sacro oggi vive una crisi che coincide con la nascita di nuovi culti e la nostra società inevitabilmente ne subisce il fascino obbligandoci a ridefinire il concetto di sacro. Io stessa ne resto affascinata e costantemente mi pongo domande alle quali però non trovo risposta.

Parola d’Artista: In your opinion, does the sacred still have an importance in art today and in the world we live in?
Maura Banfo: Art is a ritual in itself. And like every ritual it leads to a sacredness, perhaps intimate and secret, but exposed through artistic alchemy.
I believe we all need a signal that connects us with a spiritual level, not necessarily religious in my opinion, a spirituality that everyone can find through everyday gestures that connect the other within us. And art certainly is. With all its contradictions. But artists have that ability to create almost mantras through their work, thus connecting with something beyond reality.
We fix the sacredness of a gesture or an object, in art as in the life of our time.
I think of the sacred fire that is a deep inspiration, the sacred fire of art!
Certainly the sacred today is experiencing a crisis that coincides with the birth of new cults, and our society is inevitably fascinated by it, forcing us to redefine the concept of the sacred. I myself am fascinated by it and constantly ask myself questions to which I do not find answers.
