Parola d’Artista: Sei tu che scegli cosa fotografare o è il soggetto che ti chiama?

Davies Zambotti: Nella mia ricerca valgono entrambe le affermazioni. Nella maggior parte dei casi sono io a sentire  una spinta verso un particolare argomento/soggetto e quindi a decidere di trasformarlo in scatto  fotografico; altre volte mi faccio guidare/chiamare da ciò che mi circonda.

P.d’A.: Ti interessa l’idea di perderti mentre lavori?

D.Z.: Perdersi è una delle fasi più importanti durante il mio percorso di creazione e ricerca. Uno stato che indago imprimendolo nei miei scatti. Una sensazione che spero di poter donare a  chi si sofferma sui miei lavori. 

Perdersi come chiave del viaggio (spirituale/reale), come geografia essenziale del pensiero, come  ritrovo spontaneo del proprio non luogo interiore.

P.d’A.: Che importanza ha per te l’aspetto pittorico delle tue immagini?

D.Z.: La mia ricerca mi porta costantemente in esplorazione, in bilico fra più mondi, ai confini delle  cose. Perdersi per riuscire a trovare una nuova via, una nuova visione. Così, ritornando alle mie  origini pittoriche e cinematografiche, creo una commistione di più linguaggi, cercando di  allontanarmi da ciò che già esiste. Indagando una nuova luce.

DAVIES ZAMBOTTI è una Regista/Fotografa che ha lavorato in molti set cinematografici, tra cui “Sorelle Mai” di Marco Bellocchio, “I Galantuomini” di Edoardo Winspeare, “The International” di Tomy Tykwer.

Attraverso i suoi lavori personali, ricerca e analizza l’impossibilità della certezza umana, utilizzando il video e la fotografia come un microscopio, una lente con cui poter osservare le ombre fra gli interstizi del quotidiano.

Dopo il Liceo Artistico ha studiato Pittura presso l’accademia “Albertina” di Torino,

Regia e Produzione Audio/Video a Milano e partecipato ad una Masterclass tenuta da Marco Bellocchio.

Il mio lavoro consiste nella continua ricerca di un invisibile e impossibile “certezza” umana. Non siamo concreti e tangibili, dobbiamo fare i conti con l’ambiente, la cultura e le abitudini in cui cresciamo anestetizzadoci e plasmandoci secondo dei modelli prestabiliti. Nella mia ricerca cerco di spostare lo sguardo su altri spazi, dove l’incertezza diventa l’habitat della vita umana. In modo sempre diverso frugo fra gli interstizi del quotidiano portando a galla ciò che si vorrebbe nascondere, che ci fa sentire fragili, nuovi mondi che ci riflettono, di cui vorremmo ma non possiamo negare l’esistenza. Nel mio lavoro è fondamentale lo stato d’animo interiore, la distanza, il silenzio, l’ombra, la memoria e le dissonanze, voci che arrivano da lontano e rimangono impresse nei miei scatti.
Ricordi di un futuro che è già passato.

Parola d’Artista: Do you choose what to photograph or is it the subject that calls you?

Davies Zambotti: In my research both statements apply. In most cases it is me who feels a pull towards a particular subject/subject and then decides to turn it into a photographic shot; other times I am guided/called by my surroundings.

P.d’A.: Are you interested in the idea of getting lost while working?

D.Z.: Losing myself is one of the most important phases during my journey of creation and research. A state that I investigate by imprinting it in my shots. A feeling that I hope I can give to those who linger on my works. 

Losing oneself as the key to the (spiritual/real) journey, as an essential geography of thought, as a spontaneous meeting of one’s inner non-place.

P.d’A.: How important is the pictorial aspect of your images for you?

D.Z.: My research takes me constantly exploring, hovering between several worlds, on the borderline of things. Getting lost in order to find a new way, a new vision. Thus, returning to my pictorial and cinematographic origins, I create a mixture of several languages, trying to move away from what already exists. Investigating a new light.

DAVIES ZAMBOTTI is a Director/Photographer who has worked on many film sets, including “Sorelle Mai” by Marco Bellocchio, “I Galantuomini” by Edoardo Winspeare, “The International” by Tomy Tykwer. Through her personal works, she researches and analyses the impossibility of human certainty, using video and photography as a microscope, a lens with which to observe the shadows between the interstices of everyday life.

After art school, she studied painting at the “Albertina” academy in Turin,

Direction and Audio/Video Production in Milan and participated in a Masterclass held by Marco Bellocchio.

My work consists of a continuous search for an invisible and impossible human ‘certainty’.
We are not concrete and tangible, we have to deal with the environment, culture and habits in which we grow up anaesthetising and shaping ourselves according to predetermined patterns.
In my research I try to shift my gaze to other spaces, where uncertainty becomes the habitat of human life.
In an ever-changing way I rummage through the interstices of everyday life, bringing to the surface what we would like to hide, what makes us feel fragile, new worlds that reflect us, whose existence we would like but cannot deny.
In my work, the inner state of mind, distance, silence, shadow, memory and dissonance are fundamental, voices that come from afar and remain imprinted in my shots.
Memories of a future that has already passed.
