Il respiro del tempo

Il profondo legame con la natura, ci porta a osservare come dei ricercatori le minime variazioni della luce, del vento e del ciclico rinnovarsi della vita: tutto per noi è degno di attenzione, un piccolo insetto che corre veloce tra i sassi, una chiocciola che esce dal guscio bevendo un po’ d’acqua sulla roccia, la forza con cui piccoli fiori riescono a fiorire tra le pietre.

Il contatto diretto con il mondo naturale (piante, animali, acqua, terra…) è per noi indispensabile, per poter creare; lo Studio dove ci confrontiamo e lavoriamo costantemente è, in primis, la natura stessa! Sin da quando abbiamo iniziato a lavorare insieme nel 2006 a Prato, fulcro della nostra ricerca sono state le trasformazioni del tempo e della materia, le connessioni che le specie intessono fra loro plasmando il cosmo e le persone.

Le relazioni e stratificazioni che si creano tra materiali diversi, si mescolano ai libri, ai taccuini, agli schizzi; tutto viene archiviato e custodito negli studi Sughero e Origo, delle “biblioteche vegetali” a cui attingiamo per sviluppare riflessioni sui ritmi e respiri del micro e macrocosmo.

Lo studio Sughero, con le sue pareti rivestite appunto di sughero, è una sorta di pelle da toccare, una superficie vegetale sulla quale si sovrappongono studi, immagini, schizzi, memorie, ricordi personali e familiari; un piccolo laboratorio di lavorazione dei metalli, per riflettere e osservare il mondo del microcosmo.

Origo, accoglie lastre di metallo e materiali organici quali cortecce, sassi, legno, muschi, licheni, giunchi, bambù, ma anche libri, ruotismi e meccanismi di orologi che creano uno spazio in divenire. Semi, pollini, foglie sono testimoni silenziosi del ciclico modificarsi dell’ambiente in base alle stagioni. Un pendolo scandisce il tempo che passa e osserva come prendono forma installazioni e assemblaggi multi-materici: il mondo del macrocosmo.

The breath of time

The deep connection with nature leads us to observe like researchers the slightest variations of light, wind and the cyclical renewal of life: everything for us is worthy of attention, a small insect running fast among the stones, a snail coming out of its shell drinking a little water on the rock, the strength with which small flowers manage to bloom among the stones.

Direct contact with the natural world (plants, animals, water, earth…) is indispensable for us in order to be able to create; the studio where we constantly confront and work is, first and foremost, nature itself! Ever since we started working together in 2006 in Prato, the focus of our research has been the transformations of time and matter, the connections that species weave together, shaping the cosmos and people.

The relationships and stratifications that are created between different materials are mixed with books, notebooks, sketches; everything is archived and preserved in the Sughero and Origo studios, “vegetable libraries” that we draw on to develop reflections on the rhythms and breaths of the micro and macrocosm.

The Sughero studio, with its walls covered precisely in cork, is a sort of skin to be touched, a vegetable surface on which studies, images, sketches, memories, personal and family memories are superimposed; a small metalworking workshop, to reflect on and observe the world of the microcosm.

Origo, houses metal sheets and organic materials such as barks, stones, wood, mosses, lichens, rushes, bamboo, as well as books, gears and clock mechanisms that create a space in flux. Seeds, pollen, leaves are silent witnesses to the cyclical changing of the environment according to the seasons. A pendulum marks the passing of time and watches as multi-material installations and assemblages take shape: the world of the macrocosm.
