Parola d’Artista: Che importanza e che ruolo ha nel tuo lavoro il disegno?
Mario Consiglio: Il disegno è pensiero anarchico, il luogo dove non ci sono più regole dove cuore e mente fluiscono nella libertà dionisiaca più totale. Si potrebbe parlare di automatismo come quello psichico di André Breton del manifesto surrealista del 1924 se non fosse per il secolo che ci distanzia che ci ha arricchito di tecniche, concetti e nuovi scenari ;del resto siamo la somma della nostra conoscenza visiva che ci tramanda la storia. Disegno quando sono sotto stress, quando ho troppa energia , quando ho paura , quando il mondo mi offende e devo sfogarmi ma anche quando sono felice .Passo periodi brevi ma intensi dove mi perdo nel caos segnico senza capire bene cosa faccio cercando di dare un ordine al gruppo. In pratica produco in serie iniziando con uno strumento per tutto i supporti coinvolti e via via vado sovrapponendo visioni con altre tecniche. Questo è l’unico punto razionale dell’intero lavoro dove poi l’azione gestuale prende il sopravvento sulla ragione. Il disegno progettuale, invece, è un’altra pratica che adotto soprattutto quando progetto i lavori con i materiali e le installazioni; in questo caso entrano in scena la disciplina e la razionalità perché hai a che fare con la realtà concreta dell’oggetto e dello spazio. Per concludere penso che il disegno sia troppo svalutato dai più. Il segno è l’elettrocardiogramma degli artisti, la parte più segreta e più pura che solo gli esperti possono leggere. Per quanto riguarda il disegno realistico(accademico) se non accompagnato da caratteristiche individuali radicate e concetti validi rischia di diventare puro virtuosismo che poco ha a che fare con l’arte. Esprimere la nostra parte istintiva con i segni, invece, evidenzia la nostra unicità . Per imparare ad essere liberi ci vuole più tempo che ad imparare a fare un buon ritratto. Implica dedizione, follia, ostinazione, umiltà, ironia, coraggio, autocritica e una fede cieca . Solo così puoi tentare di esprimere la propria verità .

Mario Consiglio: Drawing is anarchic thought, the place where there are no more rules where heart and mind flow in total Dionysian freedom. We could speak of automatism like André Breton’s psychic automatism of the surrealist manifesto of 1924 if it were not for the century that separates us that has enriched us with techniques, concepts and new scenarios; after all, we are the sum of our visual knowledge that has been handed down to us by history. I draw when I am under stress, when I have too much energy, when I am afraid, when the world offends me and I need to let off steam, but also when I am happy. I go through short but intense periods where I lose myself in the sign chaos without really understanding what I am doing, trying to give order to the group. In practice I produce in series starting with one instrument for all the supports involved and gradually overlapping visions with other techniques. This is the only rational point of the whole work where gestural action then takes over from reason. Design drawing, on the other hand, is another practice I adopt especially when I design works with materials and installations; here discipline and rationality come into play because you are dealing with the concrete reality of the object and space. As for realistic (academic) drawing, if it is not accompanied by deep-rooted individual characteristics and valid concepts, it risks becoming pure virtuosity that has little to do with art. Expressing our instinctive side with signs, on the other hand, highlights our uniqueness. Learning to be free takes longer than learning to paint a good portrait. It implies dedication, madness, stubbornness, humility, irony, courage, self-criticism and blind faith . Only then can you attempt to express your own truth .
