Parola d’Artista: Che importanza e che ruolo ha nel tuo lavoro il disegno?
Aron Demetz: Inanzitutto per me il disegno si è scoperto tardissimo a differenza di altri colleghi che disegnavano gia da piccoli, se ricordo bene a 18 anni posso dire che seriamente ho voluto fare i primi disegni di ricerca, perchè prima non mi interessavano, anche se facevo scultura da vari anni.
Nel frattempo sono cambiate parecchie cose e il disegno è diventato parte integrante del mio lavoro, o a dire la veritá ancora di più la scrittura che il disegno stesso. Nella scrittura si forrma il pensiero delle mie opere, fermando vari passaggi e pensieri su carta riesco a chiarirmi meglio un concetto.
La parola rimane molto piu libera, perchè non è ancora legata ad una forma, per cui rimango molto tempo formando pensieri e concetti su carta, che poi vanno a chiarirmi una forma e un materiale. Solamente in un secondo momento alle parole si mischia un disegno, solo quando il pensiero diventa piu chiaro, vado a dargli una forma. Cosi per ogni passaggio rimane abbastanza spazio di interpretazione e di improvvisazione che mi fa avvicinare al lavoro finale. Tra il disegno e il bozzetto in creta o qualsiasi altro materiale poi ce un altro passaggio dove vanno rispettate altre cose, ma in ogni mometno rimane posto per l evoluzione e miglioramenti. Per cui il disegno per me è principalmente a funzione della scultura, sono preparatori e accompagnano un processo che porta poi all idea finale. Ci sono a volte dei disegni piu approfonditi e ricercati che sono piu autonomi, ma in generale sono legati alla preparazione.

Parola d’Artista: What importance and role does drawing play in your work?
Aron Demetz: First of all, drawing was discovered very late for me, unlike other colleagues who drew at a very young age. If I remember correctly, at the age of 18 I can say that I seriously wanted to do my first research drawings, because before that I was not interested in them, even though I had been doing sculpture for several years.
In the meantime, many things have changed and drawing has become an integral part of my work, or to tell the truth even more so the writing than the drawing itself. In the writing I form the thought of my works, by stopping various passages and thoughts on paper I can better clarify a concept.
The word remains much freer, because it is not yet bound to a form, so I spend a lot of time forming thoughts and concepts on paper, which then go on to clarify a form and material for me. Only later is a drawing mixed with the words, only when the thought becomes clearer do I go and give it a form. So for each step there is enough space left for interpretation and improvisation to bring me closer to the final work. Between the drawing and the sketch in clay or any other material there is another step where other things have to be respected, but at all times there is room for evolution and improvement. So the drawing for me is mainly a function of the sculpture, they are preparatory and accompany a process that then leads to the final idea. There are sometimes more in-depth and sophisticated drawings that are more autonomous, but in general they are linked to the preparation.
